End of a crystalline day
Long shadows creep across the fields
Stubble of corn peeks through,
Still reaching for the light
The sun appears
Larger than life
Resting atop the trees for a moment
And then will sink
Into darkness will fall
A place where horses once roamed...
My heart quiets,
Remembering their kind eyes
This earth, these skies
Will ne’er return to their peaceful origin
But will be filled instead
With the laughter of children.
